Your right to mental health and freedom

There are many people today talking about the subject of mental health. Whether your dealing with anxiety, depression, or simply wanting greater confidence and freedom and expansive thinking, we have the right and ability to find freedom now. Where does it come from? Is it about a brain that is in perfect balance? Or do we have another Mind that we can look to that transcends the body? The Mind I am talking about is God, divine Mind, our one perfect Source of clear, joyful, and beautiful thinking.

The Bible says “we have the mind of Christ” (1 Cor 2:16).  Mary Baker Eddy refers to God as divine Mind. This Mind is sound, pure, and healthy. This Mind or consciousness is not located in a body because it is spiritual. It is totally good, peaceful, and happy. And the good news is that this consciousness and Mind is actually ours already — it’s within us.  We have instant access to divine Mind all the time giving us the right ideas to think.

Having no other gods, turning to no other but the one perfect Mind to guide him, man is the likeness of God, pure and eternal, having that Mind which was also in Christ. — Mary Baker Eddy

Genesis 1 describes man as being made in the image and likeness of God, Spirit. Since man is the image and likeness of God, then man is actually the image and likeness of the perfect Mind. How important it is to awaken to this spiritual recognition and fact. The good news is that this spiritual identity that God has made you to be is totally good, pure, absolutely loved, worthy and beautiful. It is only made up of good. God couldn’t make anything less! You are the spiritual image and likeness of God right now. You don’t have to wait! God is giving you the thoughts to think about your worthiness, wholeness and how loved you are right now. So, you can go straight to the Source — God, infinite Love, –who is giving you good thoughts to think, loving and embracing you each moment with these tender truths.

I find Psalms 23 and 91 to be so helpful in praying each day. Check it out:

The Lord is my shepherding my thinking
God is giving me good and pure thoughts
God leads me with peaceful and still thinking
God restores my sense of who I am; God leads me in paths of right thinking — confidently and securely so that I can glorify Her.
Though I walk through the darkest valley
I will fear no evil because Love, my divine Mind, is with me.
Divine Love, Mind, is guiding and guarding me.
Divine Mind is anointing my consciousness with purity, love and peace — enough that it overflows
God’s tender mercies will follow me all the days of my life,
And I will dwell in the consciousness of perfect Love, my divine Mind, my author and Creator, forever.

Of course you can vary these Psalms to utilize in any way that is helpful to you for a morning and evening prayer!

For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. 2 Timothy 1:7

What is real progress?

What is real progress?

Is it a bigger house, car, more financial stability, etc?

Progress is the maturing conception of divine Love; –Mary Baker Eddy

Collective progress is really about spiritualizing consciousness. About gaining more of the true, unconditional, all inclusive sense of divine Love that uplifts and blesses. As humanity gains clearer views of this spiritual love, fear and anxiety diminish, and peace reigns. It’s not about each person taking their corner on peace. But about the kingdom of heaven reigning in us and the spiritual peace which accompanies that individually and collectively. This is transformative for humanity!

Gaining an inclusive sense of divine Love that kneels to wash each other’s feet — a symbol of humbleness — is a sign of self-sacrifice, true wisdom, and everlasting peace.

The rich in spirit help the poor in one grand brotherhood, all having the same Principle, or Father; and blessed is that man who seeth his brother’s need and supplieth it, seeking his own in another’s good.–Mary Baker Eddy

We can’t build safely on a false sense of what constitutes satisfaction, love, or peace. The human mind wants to see it’s somewhere out there and we have to work hard to attain it. But actually all we need is already provided for by God, and we see it as we awaken spiritually, realize the presence of good/God, and see God expressed inwardly and outwardly.

You’re blessed when you get your inside world—your mind and heart—put right. Then you can see God in the outside world.–Matthew 5:8 The Message

This takes discipline and training of our mind! “Disciple” means student so as we strive to study and understand the kingdom of Love, we will start to see this kingdom expressed around us and experience this heavenly love.

When you look through green glasses, everything around use has a greenish tint. When you look through the lens of Love and Spirit, everything around you appears as lovely, loving, beautiful, compassionate, caring. You see everything and everyone as the offspring of God’s compassionate, all-embracing Love.

What happens when you look through the lens of fear? You see suspicion, distrust, doubt, anxiety, limited resources, etc.

The only thing we need then is to change our lens! A change of perspective. Openness, willingness, and receptivity to what God is seeing and doing.

Jesus showed us the nature of God by healing, restoring, providing, lifting up, and eliminating injustice. He showed us the nature of God. If we need a reality check, we can always look to him to gain the correct model of what is good, true and everlasting. This shows us how to live, love, and grow. It’s a true model for progress!

Jesus wasn’t very concerned with material things since he trusted in God, divine Love, who provided all he needed. He sent his disciples out without a wallet and recognized he didn’t have a material home. God provided for every human needed during his whole ministry.

Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.–Matthew 6:31-33 ESV

So his primary focus was the reign of kingdom of God on earth; he stayed focused on his higher mission, and saw the fulfillment of all he had come to show us. What a beautiful example of keeping that higher goal before thought while living in the present moment and ushering in that awareness of the presence of God, divine Love.

We can follow this same model by having the realization of the kingdom be our big picture goal, while living those kingdom ideals moment by moment. By being open and receptive to seeing in news ways, we are bringing Christ into the big picture and into the minutiae of our day.

By purifying human thought, this state of mind permeates with increased harmony all the minutiæ of human affairs. — Mary Baker Eddy

Put more weight on your spiritual side

Spiritual sense is the discernment of spiritual good.

We don’t hear the words “spiritual sense” used too often, but spiritual sense is essential to our peace and wellbeing. Spiritual sense is how we perceive beauty, goodness, love, affection, tenderness, satisfaction, and fulfillment.  These are spiritual qualities and because we are ultimately spiritual beings we have the capacity to use, see, and feel them now.

Spiritual sense is a conscious, constant capacity to understand God.

Spiritual sense is how we perceive the divine nature. It’s how we perceive the transcendent reality that is above the physical, material senses. This is important because everyone wants lives that reflect peace, health, wellbeing, and satisfaction. Gaining a daily dose of spiritual sense helps us have a consciousness that is uplifted and receptive to perceiving peace and wellbeing.

Spiritual sense, contradicting the material senses, involves intuition, hope, faith, understanding, fruition, reality.

When a consciousness that is imbued with spiritual sense reflects on the body, it manifests health, holiness, and wellbeing. Why is this so important? Because thinking and living with our spiritual sense releases anxiety, fear, and stress. It assures us of our oneness with God, divine Life, Truth, and Love. It shows us that we can never be separated from that Love no matter what the physical senses say. And as we hold to the spiritual fact, the wisdom, confidence, and courage that our spiritual sense communicates will take over. As we believe God more, and believe in physicality less, we tip our mental and spiritual scale. This allows God to tip the scale on the side of the divine and it brings blessings, healing, happiness, wholeness, and peace in our lives.

Material sense does not unfold the facts of existence; but spiritual sense lifts human consciousness into eternal Truth.
