The good news

We hear a lot of news that isn’t so good these days. Some is troubling, some induces stress while still other news is just shocking and troubling.

Each of us probably craves to hear more good news. For instance, when I shared good news with a relative recently, she sighed “thank goodness, we were in need of some good news.”

Is there reliable, practical good news that we can turn to everyday? (Here’s a hint: the word gospel means good news).

I love and cherish, more than anything, what Christian Science has revealed to me about the gospel: that heaven isn’t a far off place, but it is here and now with us; we are each spiritual beings right now made in the image and likeness of Spirit; we are living eternal life now; we have an inseparable relationship with our loving, perfect Creator; God is our Father and our Mother who nurtures, comforts, protects, sustains and leads us; each of us has a perfect, indestructible relationship with God.

I often breathe a sigh of relief when I remind myself of this Truth every day.

We have the duty and privilege to protect and love our consciousness. Have you ever thought of your consciousness as a place to protect and love? Even if you are not someone who watches or reads much news, we still get “news” coming into our thought all the time. When you are driving it might be an image of an accident; or when you check your bank account, it may be a feeling of stress; or when you hear someone cough, it may be a fear of sickness.

It’s important to  your life, health and well-being to guard your consciousness. And one way to do this is to take plenty of time each day, to refresh your consciousness with the good news that makes up the fabric of your being and is life everlasting. This will sustain and satisfy you and each of us more than anything else can.

Reblog: Bright light from senior workers

Bright light from senior workers

By Barbara Vining (Reblogged from CSMonitor.com)

It’s encouraging to know that age is not a barrier to progress.

I learned that lesson early from a neighbor – a childhood friend’s father, Mr. Fierke. We were still in high school when he reached the mandatory retirement age of 65 at General Mills, where he managed the flour division. Without hesitation, he enrolled in a six-month training course to become a stockbroker, after which he began a 23-year career with a well-known brokerage firm. After that, he continued to live an active life.

In recent times, age has become less and less a factor in deciding when one should retire – or whether one should retire at all. It’s quite common for individuals to want – or need – to continue working during their senior years. Many businesses are actually wooing senior workers, and mandatory retirement ages have been disappearing from the horizon. Employers are valuing seniors for their maturity, dependability, and experience – and, I also think, for the inspiration their example can bring to the workplace.

Mr. Fierke’s example certainly inspired me, as well as many others, I’m sure… Read more

Independence

This past week I was working on being more independent. No one wants to feel like they are dependent on anything. We all want to feel liberated, confident and free!

True independence actually comes from our total dependence on God, divine Love. Divine Love, God, is the source of all happiness, health, supply, purpose, vibrancy, companionship, order, creativity, etc.  And these come into our experience when we lean on Him/Her, when we go right to the Source.

If I want to feel happiness, I know that God, divine Love, is supplying me with infinite happiness this moment. God is providing me the opportunities to express this happiness and share it with others. Happiness is a quality of God so it is inherent in us! We were made to be happy 🙂

If I want to feel more health, activity or strength, I know that God is the source of all energy and is giving me boundless strength right now! God did not create or send sickness to any of us. It is our divine right to dispute  sickness at all times! And our thoughts (the ones that come from God) protect us. Good thoughts are the best immune system you have!

If we want to feel more fulfillment in our lives, we can rejoice that we are the satisfied ideas of God, divine Love. God saw all that She made and it was very good! That sounds pretty satisfied to me.
Be watchful of any unconscious pull towards materialism or thinking that matter can make us happy. Rejoice in the simplicity, beauty and childlikeness around you right now! Sometimes when I look around my house and feel that I want “more” I remember that a baby, child or pet doesn’t care what you have. They feel and value the love, joy and comfort that is around them. We can be that child, too, and feel so satisfied with the positive, abundant qualities that are with us all the time.

Go for a walk; look for something “new” that you’ve never noticed before. I did that on a walk home with my dogs when I was feeling kind of bored with our route. Every few steps I strived to notice something new that I hadn’t consciously appreciated before. And now I see light, joy and comfort expressed all around me on this route. You may even want to stop and explore a new area that looks appealing. It’s important to keep exploring new things – expand & grow. Don’t contract or confine your viewpoint and experience. Grow! 🙂

So as we think about Independence Day, here in America, we can rejoice in knowing our complete freedom, our independence, comes from all the good that God, divine Love, is supplying us each moment. And we can be so grateful that the Truth does indeed make us free!
