How health relates to thought

In today’s world it seems like a lot depends on your health. Poor health can interfere with your job — or your job can interfere with your health.

A revolutionary thinker and healer in the world of health, Mary Baker Eddy, stated: “Health is not a condition of matter, but of Mind.” (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures)

She talks about Mind as a synonym for God – the true consciousness and intelligence of the universe which is always governing us.

I’ve had several experiences which have shown me that health is a state of consciousness; it’s not a condition of my body.

One time I was feeling guilty about a situation with a friend. This guilt manifested itself in flu-like symptoms and I was nauseous and vomiting. Because I know that my thought governs my body, I looked deeply into my thoughts and drew closer to God/Spirit in consciousness. I didn’t get distracted by thinking this was a physical problem that needed a physical solution such as medication or other material means. I knew it would be resolved mentally. So, I drew closer in thought to the one Source of all good, Love, and purity. Being so close to Spirit mentally showed me how disturbed I was feeling by this situation with a friend. I prayed for the courage to remedy the situation. After I confessed what I thought I had done wrong and apologized to my friend (who graciously accepted my apology and hadn’t been phased by the situation at all), I felt completely well. The guilty thoughts, which had not come from God and were not a natural part of me, were gone, and my health immediately returned to normal.

This shows me that what we think, and what we are exposed to mentally, determines the state of our body.

Fortunately, because God is Mind, we always have a refuge — a state of thought — to reach up to which is higher than our own. We don’t have to try to “get there” humanly; we can let this Mind rule our thoughts.

“Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus…” Phil 2:5

So, if you’re in a situation where it seems like your employment is dependant on your health or your health is dependant on your employment, recognize that your health is instead dependent on Mind. You have the right and ability to have complete freedom, health and harmony right now.

“It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.” Gal 5:1

Great inspirational blog post on sports, fitness and life.

We’re not champions because we win. We win because we’re champions.

by John Biggs, CS

I’ve been training for a Tough Mudder, coming up in a month. I’ll have more blogs about different aspects of this coming soon, but I wanted to share an insight I’ve gained during my training. And, thankfully, what I’ve discovered has had impact far beyond my morning workouts.

What I found is that if I start my training, and go through my mental preparation, trying to find out IF I can do it, I have a pretty tough time. But if I start off my training with the assurance that I CAN do it, and therefore, I am doing this because I can, my training is exponentially more harmonious, invigorating, and effective…Read more

The good news

We hear a lot of news that isn’t so good these days. Some is troubling, some induces stress while still other news is just shocking and troubling.

Each of us probably craves to hear more good news. For instance, when I shared good news with a relative recently, she sighed “thank goodness, we were in need of some good news.”

Is there reliable, practical good news that we can turn to everyday? (Here’s a hint: the word gospel means good news).

I love and cherish, more than anything, what Christian Science has revealed to me about the gospel: that heaven isn’t a far off place, but it is here and now with us; we are each spiritual beings right now made in the image and likeness of Spirit; we are living eternal life now; we have an inseparable relationship with our loving, perfect Creator; God is our Father and our Mother who nurtures, comforts, protects, sustains and leads us; each of us has a perfect, indestructible relationship with God.

I often breathe a sigh of relief when I remind myself of this Truth every day.

We have the duty and privilege to protect and love our consciousness. Have you ever thought of your consciousness as a place to protect and love? Even if you are not someone who watches or reads much news, we still get “news” coming into our thought all the time. When you are driving it might be an image of an accident; or when you check your bank account, it may be a feeling of stress; or when you hear someone cough, it may be a fear of sickness.

It’s important to  your life, health and well-being to guard your consciousness. And one way to do this is to take plenty of time each day, to refresh your consciousness with the good news that makes up the fabric of your being and is life everlasting. This will sustain and satisfy you and each of us more than anything else can.
