Humanity and consciousness

I was praying for humanity this morning and as I was affirming God’s goodness and care, I  realized that God also protects each individual consciousness from thoughts of depression, bad memories and fear.

I had an experience several weeks ago that showed me that what we would term our experience is actual our consciousness.

I was lying in bed with a cold, and I was praying and affirming different ideas about God, divine Love and my relationship to this ever-present Source of Love. I’ve found that allowing a greater understanding of God in my consciousness brings healing, even from physical ailments.

I was listening to an online church service. And because I was participating in this church service virtually, I became so aware of how our experience really is in consciousness. I realized that there is no “over there” and “over here”. In other words, we don’t live in a world of things, we live in a world of thought. God is the only real consciousness and we live, move and have our being in His (or Her or It’s) consciousness. So the only real “place” is God.

This thought was such a relief to me.; and I saw that I could always have what I need because I am always dwelling in divine consciousness. There is no time, separation or lack in this consciousness. There is only eternal, ever-present good, peace, and harmony.

I was relieved and refreshed by this new insight. And as a result the physical symptoms of a cold abated. I was healed and ready to return to work the next day.

This experience helped me see that I can pray for the consciousness of all humanity and know that a realization of our oneness with divine consciousness is natural and normal to each of us. This gives us peace, a sense of family, harmony and love that can’t be taken away by “outside” circumstances.

The Earth & sustainability

I’ve been thinking a lot about sustainability.

Part of the metaphysical definition for Earth in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures says:

“To material sense, earth is matter; to spiritual sense, it is a compound idea.”

From this spiritual sense perspective, Earth is an expression of Spirit and Life.  It is made up of God’s diversity and creativity, and every aspect of Earth, as an idea, is always perfect, harmonious and eternal.

Because the Earth is God’s self-expression, we can have an enlarged appreciation for the diversity, beauty and harmony of Earth. From trees we learn of strength and stability; from flowers we learn of joy and playfulness; from the sun we learn of warmth, comfort and energy.

All of the glories of the Earth are a way for us to know more about the perfection, wonder and infinite nature of the Creator.

So, in being a better steward and citizen of the Earth our motives can be love and appreciation for God’s spiritual Earth. We can be grateful that we can perceive the infinite nature of Life in a way that is tangible and appreciable to the human consciousness, and always see that these manifestations of life have their source in Spirit, eternal Life.

I’m enjoying taking actions to support those individuals and businesses which have these values of appreciation in mind when doing their business. Today, it can be so easy for businesses to get mesmerized into focusing completely on making more money; or as an individual we may focus on cutting corners or finding things cheaply regardless of where they came from.

But what an invitation to see that as stewards of the Earth, and children of God, the qualities of integrity, brotherly love, patience and sustainability are part of who we are.

During these tough economic times, we are called to understand that our supply comes 100% from God, good, and therefore doesn’t depend on us cutting corners, pillaging valuable resources, or destroying beneficial relationships.

Christ Jesus said:

“Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’… For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness [or right thinking], and all these things shall be added to you.” (Matthew 6, NKJV)

“If a son asks for bread from any father among you, will he give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent instead of a fish?…If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!” (Luke 11 NKJV)

When Jesus’ students told him to send the crowds home because they had been listening to Jesus’ teachings all day and were hungry, Jesus told them they didn’t have to leave. They would be fed by staying in the Christ-light. In other words, we never have to leave the Holy Spirit in order to find food and money. He fed the crowds right there, out of his abundance, so they never had to leave Christ. God says we don’t have to leave Him (His qualities of integrity, virtue, honesty, compassion, brotherly love, justice) in order to make money. What a protection to us!

Jesus responded to temptation by saying: “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.” (Matthew 4:4 NKJV) In other words, man does not live by matter but by every impulsion, characteristic and direction of Spirit.

As you are governed by these spiritual character traits of God, you are naturally governed in harmony with all of God’s creation. And everyone, including the Earth, reaps the blessings of your obedience.

Bringing God into the minutiae of your day

Unknown: “That which spiritual sense alone comprehends , and which is unknown to the material senses.”

We all have a spiritual sense. Spiritual sense is the means through which Spirit/God, divine intelligence, guides us. This spiritual sense is something that we all have but it must be cultivated. We have to practice using it so we don’t get rusty.

Try going through each day using your spiritual sense. Sometimes we may think there are things too small to be guided about. But God is always governing his children, always guiding them, caring for them even in the minutiae of our every day. Cultivating this conscious, constant communion with God shows us that we are never alone. We always have our Best Friend, our Father, Mother, God with us.

Our Father-Mother is governing each day perfectly. We are part of an interconnected orchestration of being. This interconnectedness is in perfect harmony and is like God’s great song, a beautiful melody.

But in order to hear this orchestration of being, we have to be still and listen. The “still, small voice” talked about in the Bible is governing our everyday affairs. It requires obedience, receptivity, and flexibility to follow it.

Let me give you one example:

I was out doing some errands on my bike. I felt strongly impelled that I should only go to the first stop on my list. However, after the first stop I protested against this spiritual intuition with “human reason”. When would I get the other things done? Why shouldn’t I go? What is the reason? The human mind has a hard time with the “unknown”.

So I went to the next stop. When I got to this place, I discovered they didn’t have what I needed. The trip to this place was totally unnecessary. Part of God’s Principle of harmony is that nothing is in excess and nothing is deficient. There is just the right, needed amount of everything. Our days are ordered by this Principle so there is just the right amount of time needed to do everything. There isn’t too much time or too little time. When we governed by this divine Mind, everything in our day flows together perfectly.

However, my attempt at “human reasoning” to try to solve the problems of the day had really been a lack of trust or faith in God. I didn’t trust that the all-knowing, all-seeing Mind might know more about what was going on than I did.

I learned my lesson, and I am practicing listening to the still, small voice no matter what self-validation the human mind tries to pull.

This Principle of harmony tells us where to go, when to go, tells us what we should purchase, what we don’t need to purchase, shows us what we can give, and who we should call. This spiritual intuition gives us peace, stability, and health. And by listening and obeying it we are ready, we have the tools, for anything that might come into our day.
