Letting go…Forgiving yourself and others

Let go of any past, any shame, or regret, thinking you were right, thinking you were wrong, or mistake.  Just let go.  Walk in the path of harmony, peace, joy, forgiveness and freedom.  It is within all of us – each of us.  There is only one Ego – one Being, divine, and all is One with it – in connection with it.  “There is but one real attraction, that of Spirit.  The pointing of the needle to the pole symbolizes this all-embracing power or attraction of God, divine Mind.” (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 102)

Let’s go a little further with understanding what Ego is:

“I, or Ego. – Divine Principle; Spirit; Soul; incorporeal, unerring, immortal, and eternal Mind. There is but one I, or Us, but one divine Principle, or Mind, governing all existence; man and woman unchanged forever in their individual characters, even as numbers which never blend with each other, though they are governed by one Principle. All the objects of God’s creation reflect one Mind, and whatever reflects not this one Mind, is false and erroneous…” (Ibid, P. 588)

Let go of any false sense of “you”, which is separate from the one Being, or Consciousness.  There are no limitations, no inequality, no lack, and no loss of balance.  There is only the One Ego, divine Being and It’s creation, or manifestation.

When we are governed by the One Ego or divine Being, we are in harmony with those around us.  We are in harmony with boundless bliss and joy.  We are in harmony with having each of our needs met and supplied, moment-by-moment.

We feel centered and balanced and just, untouched or affected.  Any seeming “attack” just rolls off like water on a duck’s back.

This is being in accord with the First Commandment: Thou shalt have no other gods before me. (Exodus 20:3)  Don’t worship or praise or give your attention to anything else but “me” – the God of harmony, peace, forgiveness, and charity. Definitely pray about and heal each situation, each circumstance in your own thought.  Thought is where real change happens and it blesses you as well as others.  You will feel the effect; you will feel the needed change.

This is actually the source of our health – where our health comes from – God.  This One Mind, or Spirit governs us righteously.  And following this reveals who we are as His/Her children and with divine rights: intelligence, brilliance, happiness, health and freedom.

So let’s “let go” of anything that hinders us from feeling and cherishing our oneness with Spirit.  Spirit, Love has already blessed us, and we can rejoice in this blessing. Let go of anything that is separating you from feeling your oneness now.

Forgiveness and Health

This week’s Christian Science Bible Lesson is on the subject of “Everlasting Punishment”.  It talks about how sin punishes the evildoer.  The old theological concept of heaven and hell is giving way to the understanding that heaven and hell are not locations, but are experienced here and now based on how we think and act.

Stanford University was doing a study called The Stanford Forgiveness Project on the effect of forgiveness on health.  The studies show that people who let go of anger and hurt feelings are experiencing better health and longevity.  Isn’t that an example of experiencing heaven here and now?

Anger, resentment, and revenge lead us to poor health, which is one of the reasons Jesus advised against them.  When Peter asked him, “Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother when he sins against me? Up to seven times?”  Jesus answered and said, “I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times.”  (NIV, Matt 18:22) Why do you think Jesus advises us of this?  Because our health and happiness depend on it, which is our salvation right here and now!   The Ten Commandments and the Sermon on the Mount were given to us for our well-being, so that we could be properly governed by divine Mind, – the source of all health, happiness, and goodness.

Mary Baker Eddy, the discoverer and founder of Christian Science, wrote in her bestselling book, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, “A moral question may hinder the recovery of the sick.  Lurking error, lust, envy, revenge, malice, or hate will perpetuate or even create the belief in disease.” (p. 419)

She wisely advises, “Christian Science commands man to master the propensities, — to hold hatred in abeyance with kindness, to conquer lust with chastity, revenge with charity, and to overcome deceit with honesty. Choke these errors in their early stages, if you would not cherish an army of conspirators against health, happiness, and success.” (p. 405)

Dr. Frederic Luskin, of Stanford University, states in regard to his studies, “What is intriguing about this research is that even people who are not depressed or particularly anxious can obtain the improved emotional and psychological functioning that comes from learning to forgive. This suggests that forgiveness may enable people who are functioning adequately to feel even better. While the research is limited, a picture is emerging that forgiveness may be important not just as a religious practice but as a component of a comprehensive vision of health.”  Also, “This study demonstrated that normal college students could become significantly less angry and hurt, feel more hopeful, spiritually content and self-efficacious about managing their emotions and also become more forgiving after a six-hour training session.” (Stanford Medicine, “The Art and Science of Forgiveness”, Vol. 16, No. 4).

I think we are ready, as mankind, to realize that “medicine is Mind” (Miscellaneous Writings, Eddy, p. 268), and to relinquish anything that isn’t good from our disposition, for the betterment of all humanity.  “…Forgiveness may be, as the religious traditions have been claiming all along, a rich path to greater peace and understanding that also has both psychosocial and physiological value.” (“The Art and Science of Forgiveness”, Luskin, 1999)

Mrs. Eddy says, “Here Christian Science is the sovereign panacea, giving strength to the weakness of mortal mind, — strength from the immortal and omnipotent Mind, — and lifting humanity above itself into purer desires, even into spiritual power and good-will to man.” (Science and Health, Eddy, p. 407)

This certainly sounds like our salvation here and now, being governed by divine Mind who is the source of mankind’s health and happiness

Who is man?

I love this week’s Bible Lesson on the subject of Man.  These weekly Lesson’s offer such a great structure for learning and growing spiritually on a daily and weekly basis.

This week’s Lesson is all about how man is the blest and loved child of God.  It includes the first chapter of Genesis on how God created man in His (or Her) own image and likeness – in the image and likeness of Spirit.  Therefore, man (including all mankind) is spiritual and perfect right now.

We are healed by simply realizing this fact.  When we feel tempted to stress, feel afraid or burdened, or look down on ourselves or others, we can dismiss that thought or fear and know what is really true about ourselves.  We are the blessed and loved child of God.  God created us spiritual and perfect.  We are the embodiment of intelligence, poise, grace, confidence, joy and we have infinite abilities and talents which come from God.

So why think any other thoughts about ourselves or others?  We don’t have too.  We can stick to the Scientific facts about God and His perfect, good creation.

Mary Baker Eddy wrote in her inspiring book, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, to “stand porter at the door of thought”.  This falls under the marginal heading entitled “Guarding the door” (p. 392).  Guarding the door of our thought is such a simple and effective way to only let God’s thoughts into our consciousness, and thereby let our experience be governed by divine Mind.  The result is harmonious, healthy bodies, good, unselfish relationships, and fulfilling work and supply.

She writes, “The conceptions of mortal, erring thought must give way to the ideal of all that is perfect and eternal. Through many generations human beliefs will be attaining diviner conceptions, and the immortal and perfect model of God’s creation will finally be seen as the only true conception of being.” (p. 260)

So we can start right now by only accepting the good, true and perfect model.  God’s creation is spiritual, universal, and complete, and He made all that was made – entirely good.  This Truth blesses and uplifts everyone.  We are all God’s beloved, cared for children.
