What is my purpose?

What is my purpose?  Why I am here?

 

I think we have all had these questions.  And I know that satisfying answers can be found spiritually.

 

I am here to glorify God.  A friend shared with me an old Hebrew definition of the word “glory” – The reality of God’s presence coming to light.


Each of us represents the divine in a unique way.  We have spiritual qualities, talents and skills that are manifested individually.  No two snowflakes are the same and no two people are the same either.  Just like numbers.  Each one is valuable and needed.

 

Some might be good at math or science, business or the arts.  Some are analytical while others are more conceptual.  Each one of us is shining forth unique skills and talents of God.  And just as God isn’t limited, so we aren’t limited.

 

Though we might have a set of skills that we incline towards, we are also able to listen to and understand one another; appreciate another’s perspective or hardship; have the ability to live in another’s shoes, even if just for a moment.  This signifies another set of qualities: patience, compassion, humility, and love.  We all have the ability and capacity to express them.

 

Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount is really the essential guide for living.  It includes such important lessons as – go two miles with whoever asks, not just one; love everyone and not just your friends; expand your sense of love and life; expand who you allow into your circle; pray humbly and meekly; be sincere.

 

These are important life lessons.  They change the question ‘what do I do?’ to ‘how should I do it?’  ‘How should I think, live, laugh, and love?’  Freely, joyfully, and fully without reservation or hesitation.

 

All we have to do today is express God.  In fact, we can cross off anything else on our to-do list. Or, at least, write next to it ‘how will I do this?’

 

Our job is to be.  It’s a beautiful and lovely job, and is so spiritual.

Letting go…Forgiving yourself and others

Let go of any past, any shame, or regret, thinking you were right, thinking you were wrong, or mistake.  Just let go.  Walk in the path of harmony, peace, joy, forgiveness and freedom.  It is within all of us – each of us.  There is only one Ego – one Being, divine, and all is One with it – in connection with it.  “There is but one real attraction, that of Spirit.  The pointing of the needle to the pole symbolizes this all-embracing power or attraction of God, divine Mind.” (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 102)

 

Let’s go a little further with understanding what Ego is:

“I, or Ego. – Divine Principle; Spirit; Soul; incorporeal, unerring, immortal, and eternal Mind. There is but one I, or Us, but one divine Principle, or Mind, governing all existence; man and woman unchanged forever in their individual characters, even as numbers which never blend with each other, though they are governed by one Principle. All the objects of God’s creation reflect one Mind, and whatever reflects not this one Mind, is false and erroneous…” (Ibid, P. 588)

 

Let go of any false sense of “you”, which is separate from the one Being, or Consciousness.  There are no limitations, no inequality, no lack, and no loss of balance.  There is only the One Ego, divine Being and It’s creation, or manifestation.

 

When we are governed by the One Ego or divine Being, we are in harmony with those around us.  We are in harmony with boundless bliss and joy.  We are in harmony with having each of our needs met and supplied, moment-by-moment.

 

We feel centered and balanced and just, untouched or affected.  Any seeming “attack” just rolls off like water on a duck’s back.

 

This is being in accord with the First Commandment: Thou shalt have no other gods before me. (Exodus 20:3)  Don’t worship or praise or give your attention to anything else but “me” – the God of harmony, peace, forgiveness, and charity. Definitely pray about and heal each situation, each circumstance in your own thought.  Thought is where real change happens and it blesses you as well as others.  You will feel the effect; you will feel the needed change.

 

This is actually the source of our health – where our health comes from – God.  This One Mind, or Spirit governs us righteously.  And following this reveals who we are as His/Her children and with divine rights: intelligence, brilliance, happiness, health and freedom.

 

So let’s “let go” of anything that hinders us from feeling and cherishing our oneness with Spirit.  Spirit, Love has already blessed us, and we can rejoice in this blessing. Let go of anything that is separating you from feeling your oneness now.

Person versus Principle

Today I’ve been working (mentally) on seeing and knowing that there is only one Person!  In fact the limitation of any school of thought or religion comes from too great of a sense of person instead of Principle.  When we focus our thought on Principle, we are seeing what God is doing and knowing; we are seeing the Truth and a greater, expansive sense of Life.  Too great of a sense of person or personality separate our thought from the one God who is also the one Person.

There is one Mind, one Ego, or consciousness.  And everything is the manifestation of this one Mind.  Everything is in essence made up of God’s thoughts, God’s ideas, and what God sees and knows.

Does this mean that our being and existence is annihilated?  On the contrary, we are each the individual expression of the One Being.  God is the substance, nature, and essence of who we are.  We are essentially made up of spiritual qualities – love, joy, peace, harmony, creativity, spontaneity, life, vitality, energy, principle, honesty, integrity, and so on.  Each of us expresses Deity in a truly unique way – and this is our identity and individuality.  God’s creation or manifestation wouldn’t be complete with out each and everyone one of us.  Which is why we exist permanently and eternally in divine Mind.

That which is based on person instead of Principle is erroneous.  For instance to believe that Jesus as a person is our personal savior is limiting.  But to realize that his teachings are what saves us – what destroys evil and sin – is what enables us to “go and do likewise”[i] as he instructed.

“Jesus cried and said, He that believeth on me, believeth not on me, but on him that sent me.”[ii] Here again, Jesus is pointing us to God; he was always trying to get us to look to God, follow God, and be obedient to God.  If we worship a person, other than the one Person or Principle, which is God, this is idolatry.  Jesus was teaching and revealing a Principle.  And when we look to that Principle we get the same results he did.

Stephen, Philip, and Paul all did the same.  They didn’t know Jesus personally, they weren’t taught by him personally, but that didn’t change the effect of his teachings because his teachings were based on a Principle.  They preached the “good news” and healed many that were sick or diseased.

Does Principle change?  Has it disappeared and gone away?  No.  Just as the principle of math doesn’t ever go anywhere, so divine Principle is still here, present, and applicable.  As we look to Principle, we see more of what God is doing, seeing, and knowing.  And anything that comes to our thought as another person other than God, the one Person, is false and stems from evil or what some call the “devil” which doesn’t have substance or reality.  These thoughts may come up like “she is bad” or “I feel sick” always presenting themselves as another ego.

Paul says, “For I through the law am dead to the law, that I might live unto God.

I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me:”[iii]

Here Paul is denying this ego or being separate from God.  He is saying that it is the Christ – the spirit of God – that makes up his identity and individuality.  And therefore he is and can only be and do like God.

And the same is true for us.
