Why do I love God?

emboss-infinityReligion may seem “dead” today, but it occurs to me that only material dogmas are really dead.

The love of God, and the love that God has towards us is very much alive. This is what “real” religion, or spirituality, is all about — that precious, tender relationship between God, man and all living things.

Why do I love God?

  • God is my Sustaining Infinite and Protector.
  • God is my Mind, and all of His/Her thoughts are lovely, loving and pure.
  • God’s Love is like a warm comforter on a cold, winter night that is always with me.
  • God’s Truth gives me direction and confidence.
  • God’s Soul gives me identity and identity to all living things in perfect unity. God’s Soul also gives me creativity, spontaneity and joy.
  • God’s Spirit is the substance of my being. It includes health, harmony and abundance.
  • God’s Life is my life. Forever and always.
  • God’s Principle is my solid foundation. The life, truth and love that I can never fall from.

These reasons for why I love God cause me to contemplate the question: how big is your God?

We can all expand our understanding and perception of God everyday. This spiritual understanding is the answer to every thing we need. It comprises the wholeness of who we are. It is basis for your health, your life purpose, your worth, and satisfaction.

This spiritual wholeness is illustrated in Christ Jesus’ statement, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.” (Matthew 22:37 NIV)

Let the divine light shine

Each day is filled with such inspiring ideas about God’s love and perfect creation. I write many blogs in my mind, but often don’t get them down on my computer!

Today I read an inspiring article called “What you think counts“.

It explains how healing can happen when you entertain good thoughts about those around you.

The article shares this illustration:

…let us assume you are sitting in your living room with a friend. It is twilight, and you say, “I wish to read this article,” and you turn on a strong overhead light. This light enables not only you but also your friend to read. Neither had a darkness of his own. No, there was only one darkness, and one bright light dispelled it. Two lights were not required to dissipate the one darkness. The one bright light sufficed.

Each one of us has the light of Christ — divine goodness and love — to shine!

Jesus said, “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:16.

It helps me to think of this as “let God’s light shine”, so I don’t feel tempted to think I have a personal power/light separate from God (after all, Jesus also said, “Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God.” Mark 10:18).

Doesn’t this illustration make you want to shine this divine light brightly so that everyone can feel and experience divine goodness and the healing power of Love? It shows me that YES what we hold in thought does make a difference and each thought can be utilized to shine that light and bless others!

Freedom from fearful thoughts

Lately I’ve found thoughts of accident, disaster, and tragedy harassing me. I’m not generally a fearful or paranoid person, so this was unusual. The way I’ve been dealing with this is through prayer.

The Bible states:

“Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.” (Philippians 4:8, 9 NIV)

So all I have to do is think about & focus on the things that are divine, good & true. Recognizing that these negative thoughts are not my mind is a huge help. St. Paul also says to have that mind which is in Christ. That Mind is God — the one intelligence or consciousness. God’s thoughts are pure, holy, peaceful & good. When I am governed by & listening to him, there isn’t any room for thoughts that are bad.

Mary Baker Eddy, the Founder of Christian Science, wrote:
“…keep your minds so filled with Truth and Love, that sin, disease, and death cannot enter them. It is plain that nothing can be added to the mind already full. There is no door through which evil can enter, and no space for evil to fill in a mind filled with goodness. Good thoughts are an impervious armor; clad therewith you are completely shielded from the attacks of error of every sort. And not only yourselves are safe, but all whom your thoughts rest upon are thereby benefited.”

I’m so grateful that we all have the tools at hand to find mental and physical freedom.
