Wait on God

Recently, my husband and I have been looking into housing and various real estate options. It can be so tempting to want to know what will happen in the future? What will it look like? What should we do? Etc.

I’ve found, though, when we lean on God, just taking one step at a time, He shows us the way. If I focus on wondering what it will look like in the end, I miss the joy, trust, faith and discovery that is part of each day.

The Bible tells us to “wait on the Lord”, which I like to think about as continuing to serve God (rather than just sitting around).

Mary Baker Eddy explains, “When we wait patiently on God and seek Truth righteously, He directs our path.”

It used to drive me crazy to have to wait for something to happen. But now (I’m grateful for this sign of spiritual progress) I am able to listen more to God, wait on Him, and rejoice in the facts of His harmonious creation and government of all things.

When we keep our focus on God, Spirit, divine Love, then good things naturally unfold in our lives.

Jesus teaches this in the Sermon on the Mount. After asking his disciples why do they worry about tomorrow and wondering if God will provide them with the food, clothing, etc., he instructs: “…seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” (Matt 6:33)

Finally, “Progress is the law of God”, writes Mary Baker Eddy, and since it’s a law we can lean on it and rejoice that it is operating in our lives.

Let the divine light shine

Each day is filled with such inspiring ideas about God’s love and perfect creation. I write many blogs in my mind, but often don’t get them down on my computer!

Today I read an inspiring article called “What you think counts“.

It explains how healing can happen when you entertain good thoughts about those around you.

The article shares this illustration:

…let us assume you are sitting in your living room with a friend. It is twilight, and you say, “I wish to read this article,” and you turn on a strong overhead light. This light enables not only you but also your friend to read. Neither had a darkness of his own. No, there was only one darkness, and one bright light dispelled it. Two lights were not required to dissipate the one darkness. The one bright light sufficed.

Each one of us has the light of Christ — divine goodness and love — to shine!

Jesus said, “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:16.

It helps me to think of this as “let God’s light shine”, so I don’t feel tempted to think I have a personal power/light separate from God (after all, Jesus also said, “Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God.” Mark 10:18).

Doesn’t this illustration make you want to shine this divine light brightly so that everyone can feel and experience divine goodness and the healing power of Love? It shows me that YES what we hold in thought does make a difference and each thought can be utilized to shine that light and bless others!

Have a happy day shining that light and blessing those around you!

Everyone is special

My family has a tradition of celebrating Special Days. It started with my husband and I because we like to buy each other little gifts. We also don’t like the silly focus on how old someone is that comes along with birthdays. So we celebrate Special Days several times a year. It’s a surprise because your Special Day falls on whichever day the family has decided to honor how special you are.

I love how it reminds me to show my appreciation for my family members frequently. And isn’t that the best part about birthdays — to honor someone’s unique, God-given identity?

I don’t think God knows about our age or personality or what color hair we have. I think God has a completely different view because God isn’t like man, God is a Spirit. The one and only Spirit. Infinite Life. Everlasting Love.

It’s nice to know that there is One out there who is seeing us as we really are — spiritual, unique, and free; Her adoring image & likeness; The reflection, the mirrored image, of the Perfect One.

I hope to see everyone around me the way God sees us today: made of beautiful, shining qualities radiating & shining out to warm & bless everything around you.
