Universal message of Christ

After reading the news story, “Culture wars: Holiday struggle over public spaces still very much alive“, I prayed to know that the spiritual significance of Christ can unite us, instead of divide us.

I’ve heard that the use of the words: Christ, God, and Jesus are a turn-off for some people and make them think about political parties, war, injustice, etc. instead of their spiritual, healing meaning.
I love the definition of Christ given in Christian Science:

“Christ is the true idea voicing good, the divine message from God to men speaking to the human consciousness.” (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 339)

Christ is not so much a person in Christian Science as it is the divine voice, guidance, influence, attraction, and healing power.

It is also described as: the spiritual and true idea of God; that which alone confers the healing power.

The textbook of Christian Science continues:

“Jesus is the name of the man who, more than all other men, has presented Christ, the true idea of God…” (p. 473)

Each of us has the power and ability to express the Christ and be a healing influence on our friends, families and neighbors.

The Christ is what elevates us, wipes away our tears, gives us hope and understanding, unites family and friends, enables us to rise higher in our life achievements, impels unselfish giving, heals sickness, and focuses our thought on the eternal and peaceful.

It is our link to the divine.

There is nothing in Spirit which can divide us. It’s very nature is eternal, complete, whole, pure and perfect.

In this season and every season, the universal, healing message of the Christ is speaking to us.

Freedom from fearful thoughts

Lately I’ve found thoughts of accident, disaster, and tragedy harassing me. I’m not generally a fearful or paranoid person, so this was unusual. The way I’ve been dealing with this is through prayer.

The Bible states:

“Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.” (Philippians 4:8, 9 NIV)

So all I have to do is think about & focus on the things that are divine, good & true. Recognizing that these negative thoughts are not my mind is a huge help. St. Paul also says to have that mind which is in Christ. That Mind is God — the one intelligence or consciousness. God’s thoughts are pure, holy, peaceful & good. When I am governed by & listening to him, there isn’t any room for thoughts that are bad.

Mary Baker Eddy, the Founder of Christian Science, wrote:
“…keep your minds so filled with Truth and Love, that sin, disease, and death cannot enter them. It is plain that nothing can be added to the mind already full. There is no door through which evil can enter, and no space for evil to fill in a mind filled with goodness. Good thoughts are an impervious armor; clad therewith you are completely shielded from the attacks of error of every sort. And not only yourselves are safe, but all whom your thoughts rest upon are thereby benefited.”

I’m so grateful that we all have the tools at hand to find mental and physical freedom.

Self-sacrifice

Today is Memorial Day in the United States. Many people enjoy a federal holiday and some may reflect on the significance of this day.

Regardless of the diverse opinions out there about war, the military and patriotism, each person who has served in the military and each civilian are united by Christly qualities. It is the Christ which impels us to give unselfishly — to sacrifice ourselves so that others may experience some happiness and good. This sacrifice may come by serving in the military, as a schoolteacher, giving to a non-profit, or devoting one’s life to helping others in some way. We each give self-sacrifices of time, patience, money, and devotion to one another everyday, for which I am grateful.

These qualities and the impulsion to do so doesn’t come from who we are humanly; it comes from deep within our divine nature. It is God who is impelling us to give, guiding us, blessing us and replenishing us. It speaks of our eternal identity, which He created, that is all-good, skilful in expressing divine intelligence, compassion and integrity.

It is this eternal identity which unites all of us in appreciation, love, and forgiveness for one another. We have a deep well of divine strength that we can draw on each moment. This Source gives us solutions and answers to the problems we face and the skill to act on them. It is a deep spiritual love, compassion and integrity which unites us all.

Thanks to everyone who serves in whatever capacity they feel divinely led to do. Your self-sacrifice blesses you and all the world.
