Unselfish love

What does it mean to love?

Putting off selfishness, fear, and false stereotypes enables us to love more. Ultimately discovering more about God, Love itself, shows who we are as the image and likeness of Love and infinitely capable of loving.

Jesus said to his followers,

A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.

We have countless opportunities to love throughout our day: waiting in traffic, caring for children, caring for the elderly, business relationships, spouse relationships, interactions with strangers.

Here are some powerful examples of love I heard recently:

  • “It was all about love” was the divine message one woman received when she prayed to better understand her loving relationship with her mom — to have a sense of peace — after her mother passed away.
  • “I will not respond with anger or fear. I will respond with love” thought one man after he was put in a headlock by a mentally ill patient. Ultimately the patient felt the man relax and let him go unharmed.
  • “I’m sorry that you had to grow up without a father” said one male juvenile to a female police officer in a new community-focused panel designed to break down barriers between police and citizens.

There are countless examples of the power of Love to bring protection and healing to any given situation.

What is it that prevents us from loving? Ultimately, it is fear — a fear of limited time, ability, wealth, etc.

For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it; but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it.

Christ Jesus words may seem like a hard task to follow, but we can begin losing a limited sense of life each day by giving up selfishness, anger, hatred, revenge, and frustration. These negative pulls obscure our ability to feel God’s love.

What is the reward for doing so? A better and safer world to live in, more harmonious relationships, closer-knit communities, a feeling of individual dominion, and being at one with God’s grace and unconditional love.

Overcoming the lies of evil

sunset-192978_640Evil disguises itself as something good — something that is “out there” that we have to get.

This is illustrated in the Bible passages where Jesus overcomes the temptations of evil:

...the tempter came and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, command these stones to become loaves of bread.” But he answered, “It is written, “‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”

Jesus knew: I already have all that I need in God. God is my life and my purpose. He supplies all that I need and I can not be afraid or tempted.

“If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down, for it is written, “‘He will command his angels concerning you,’ and “‘On their hands they will bear you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone.’” Jesus said to him, “Again it is written, ‘You shall not put the Lord your God to the test.’”

I already know that I am loved and cared for by God. I do not have to put God to the test. I am secure in my relationship with God, good.

Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. And he said to him, “All these I will give you, if you will fall down and worship me.”
Then Jesus said to him, “Be gone, Satan! For it is written, “‘You shall worship the Lord your God and him only shall you serve.’”

God has already given me, and all His children, the spiritual Kingdom of Heaven. Evil tries to gratify itself, but our Kingdom is given to us freely by God and filled with spiritual beauty, joy, freedom and love. There is no hatred, fear or disease in our Kingdom. It is whole and peaceful. It is the reign of Love and Spirit within us — within our consciousness.

Every child of God has the power and ability to overcome these temptations of evil and see the Kingdom of Heaven within. No one is left out of this Kingdom. This will lead to individual peace and freedom for us and the world.

Fear not…you are safe

angel-427478_1280The Kingdom of Heaven is the safest place you can dwell.

This Kingdom is the consciousness of love, peace, and harmony — a selfless, divine Love for all men, women and children. This selfless, divine Love surrounds you and embraces you. You are safe in this Love. Meditate on this fact; rest in it.

No fear or worry about disease or death is part of this consciousness. No fear or worry is part of you. No fear or worry is in the atmosphere of divine Love, the Kingdom of Heaven.

We do not live in a physical space or time. You need to expand your sense of safety to know that you are safe because you live in Love — not because you live near or far away from conflict.

The Bible includes countless examples of God’s protection and power in times of war, famine and pestilence. Daniel was safe in the lion’s den, the three boys were safe in the furnace of fire (see Daniel 3 and 6), to give just a couple examples.

Why? Because the consciousness of Love has no sense of pain or fear. It can only see and know It’s own perfect reality. God is never afraid, never fears for His creation or manifestation. So, His likeness can not be made to fear.

You are safe in Love today. You can rest assured, not because of a physical place or location, but because you rest in the infinitude of Love. This is the safest place — or consciousness — in which you can dwell.

“Whoever dwells in the shelter [consciousness] of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.” Psalm 91, NIV
