Waking up from a dream

A few nights ago I had a nightmare. In the dream there was an image rushing towards me. I felt afraid, so, in my dream, I prayed. I closed my eyes and prayed “God is all”. Even in my dream, I felt and expected God would answer my prayers.

The next moment, I felt a wet nose on my arm. My dog (in the picture) was waking me up. When I was awake, she went and lay down again.  My dog has never done anything like this before. And I knew it was really divine Love waking me up. Divine Love (another name for God) is with us where ever we are, whatever state of consciousness we are in. He/She is always able to reach us. We are never separated from this Love.

The Bible talks about the Comforter that will be with us forever. My spiritual understanding of this ever-present, always available divine Love gives me comfort. Another translation of this Greek term in the New Testament is companion. Knowing there is a Science, God’s divine laws, that we can rely on and are there for us in any situation that comes to us is so comforting. And it’s like having a companion. This Science is with us everywhere. It’s like having an advocate – something always there to defend you.

A financial struggle or a physical ailment can often seem like a bad dream. How do we wake up? God’s love is there to wake us up. When we are praying about a situation, we know that God’s love is just like that wet nose waking us up from the dream that we are suffering. Waking up is the activity of God assuring us: “I love you”, “I’m always with you”, “I created you spiritually – perfect, whole and complete”, “We have never been separated”. How reassuring are these messages of Love! And this is the Good News that’s available to wake up to.

Pets and healing!

I’m so grateful that Christian Science is applicable to many aspects of life.

My husband and I love animals and have cats and dogs.

One evening, we fed our cats dinner but they wouldn’t eat!  It was very strange.  They sniffed the food, pawed at it and turned away.

Well, my husband and I have the habit of turning first to prayer (by this I mean a spiritual and metaphysical way of thinking about things).

I was getting ready to go out for the evening so I asked my husband if he would pray about the issue.

He went into his office to do so and I felt a sense of peace and hope that there would be an answer.  I’ve been taught to expect results and healing from our prayer and that praying is practical!

When we returned home later that evening we tried to feed them again.  This time one of the cats ate – he had returned to normal – but the other had the same mysterious behavior.

This time I knew it was my turn to pray.  I considered this kitty one of my dear friends so it was wonderful to turn to God in humble, heartfelt prayer to strive to see what God knows about His creation.  I knew God made his creation spiritually and free from defect (from Genesis 1 in the Bible).  God’s spiritual creation is always harmonious, healthy and good because it is made in His image and likeness.

I went to sleep feeling peaceful from these spiritual insights.

The next morning the cat was eating again.  Over the next couple days everything continued to return to normal, and there has been no recurrence of that problem.

I’m so grateful for this healing.  And it’s totally natural – everyone can experience these same healing results!

Life Lessons and Spiritual Insights Part 2

Here  is Part 2 – the continuation of life lessons and spiritual insights I’m grateful for. God is always graciously teaching us and showing us the Way!  🙂

One of the lessons I learned in school was not to gossip (I only wish I knew this from the get-go – it would have made things a lot easier!). It can be so tempting to join in the criticism or “fun” in a conversation with friends – comparing people to others and labeling their actions in some way.

The Bible shows us that God directs our way and actions, and human opinions and beliefs mean nothing to Him (for instance, in a job search or in the path we choose in life).  He shows us that He doesn’t care what popular opinions say in such stories as Moses and the children of Israel, Daniel and the lion’s den, Nehemiah building the wall and countless other examples.  In fact, the Bible is really a compilation of the Spirit of God lifting us out popular beliefs and saying in a way, “I don’t care what’s going on humanly…this is what is really going on and is really going to happen”.

We can have the same Spirit today, even if we’re dealing with a physical illness.  Maybe there has been a prediction about our state of being or our future.  God shows us that it doesn’t matter what is going on humanly.  Only what He says and knows counts.  God never created sickness or any debilitating illness for us to be subject to.  Nor can we be harmed from criticism or gossip by another.

If we think kindly towards others, any criticism or unkind thought shot toward us falls right off.  “The mental arrow shot from another’s bow is practically harmless, unless our own thought barbs it.”

“…We should go forth into life with the smallest expectations, but with the largest patience; with a keen relish for and appreciation of everything beautiful, great, and good, but with a temper so genial that the friction of the world shall not wear upon our sensibilities; with an equanimity so settled that no passing breath nor accidental disturbance shall agitate or ruffle it…” (Taking Offense, Miscellaneous Writings 1883-1896, Eddy)

I love this article called “Taking Offense” by Mary Baker Eddy (a spiritual leader, healer and teacher in 1821-1910).  It is such a wonderful reminder that we don’t have to get caught up in the swing of things – all the gossip that is presented, whether it be in our family, neighbor or even in cultures and government  around the world.  We never have to think an unkind or unloving thought toward anyone nor can any reach us – what a freedom this is (keeping our mental atmosphere pure, uplifted and free)!
