Beating the clock

Rushing around smartly is no proof of accomplishing much. *

clock-tower-190677_960_720Jesus is the perfect example of overcoming time and stress. He was in some pretty stressful situations but he never caved in to pressure, never doubted his Father’s Kingdom. He knew God’s law was lovingly reigning over all and could reverse the material view that said it wasn’t.

Jesus was asked to go heal Jairus’ daughter but on the way he’s stopped by another situation. It’s a woman who was in physical need and was healed when she touched him. He even took the time to comfort this woman to let her know that her faith in God healed her.

Well, now he gets the “too late” message: the girl whom he had agreed to go heal is now dead. Jesus was too late! He missed the window of opportunity. Haven’t we all heard a message like that before? You missed the deadline! What were you thinking! You berate yourself: I’m such an idiot!

Well, that’s not what Jesus did or thought! He knew God was all powerful. He knew there was no “too late” or “too hard” or “impossible” with God.

The end of the story is that he goes to the home of the girl and heals her — she is alive and well. (See Mark 5).

Looks like God had everything under control the whole time! Even when the people didn’t believe it and couldn’t see it.

How often do we believe that we only have just a quick time to obtain something good — that there’s a narrow window of opportunity; and even that we have to experience as much as we can before our time is up! Wow, this proverbial clock would have us running and rushing around and missing the glory and joy of God’s forever Kingdom!

urban-571631_960_720There was one week in my spiritual practice where I really focused on God being the law and order that is governing everything. I thought about a divine Principle governing my experience and placing me where I needed to be at the perfect time. It was awesome! It was at a time when I had an hour-long commute to and from the city for work. I found that praying with these ideas helped me to arrive exactly when I needed to. It even helped me to find parking in my overcrowded neighborhood — arriving at the perfect time when someone was pulling out of a spot (at a time when parking could take a half hour or more to find). I was just in awe of God’s goodness and I learned so much that week about how God governs every facet of our experience. We see this when we humbly and prayerfully express Him/Her!

Jesus wasn’t stressed out and we don’t need to be either. We can experience God’s harmonious control governing every avenue of being for good.

Redemption & an inspiring example from Mary

woman-591576_960_720I love the inspiring example of Mary Magdalene in the Bible. We don’t know a lot about this woman, but we do know that she went to Jesus seeking forgiveness and was ready to repent, change her actions, and seek Christ.

[She] stood at his feet behind him weeping, and began to wash his feet with tears, and did wipe them with the hairs of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment.

Jesus treats her compassionately and forgives her sins (even defending her to the Pharisee who was judging her) . What a profound healing that must have been for Mary!

“Which of them will love him most?” was the Master’s question to Simon the Pharisee; and Simon replied, “He to whom he forgave most.” Jesus approved the answer, and so brought home the lesson to all, following it with that remarkable declaration to the woman, “Thy sins are forgiven.”

The part that I love is that Mary didn’t turn around and dwell on her mistakes; the Bible tells us she became a follower of Jesus, was there for him at the crucifixion and was even the first to see him after his resurrection.

What a practical, inspiring example for us today! We’ve all made past mistakes and wish we could have done things differently. But ruminating on them isn’t going to help! That is why I love the example of Mary. She didn’t need to wonder why she had done the things she had; she didn’t turn to the past to inform her who she was — whom Jesus saw that she was; she was a completely free woman fully capable of living her divine purpose going forward. The transformation that took place in her was a complete “new birth” experience.

We can all learn from Mary’s example, and go forward and shine!

This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!

Standing up for what’s right

person-723555_960_720I love to stand up and defend what is right and true.

Defending who we are as spiritual children of God is a daily part of my practice.

I strive to do the right thing and pray for guidance to know what that is even when doing something as simple as watching a movie or scheduling appointments. I find that divine guidance is guiding me to express my highest sense of right and moral courage in my interactions and decisions.

I certainly struggle to do the right thing just as every one else does. But the desire to feel and express God in every moment is fulfilled by a living, animating Spirit that leads us out of bad situations and helps us find forgiveness.

Christ is such a powerful force that he wipes the desire for materialism and sensuality completely out of thought.

sun-flower-726978_960_720These “new birth” experiences happen continually and some can even happen dramatically. One of my most profound transforming experiences was when I reached out to the Bible during a dark time in my life and I gained a greater perception of Jesus and the power and significance of his healing ministry today, which caused a dramatic shift in my lifestyle, choices and friendships in post-college years. This conversion experience was needed and ultimately set me on the path to helping others find spiritual freedom.

The desire to do what is right is a daily demand moment-by-moment, even though we may make great strides at different points in our life. For me, it starts with my morning “spiritual bath” prayer when I align myself with God. I pour in the Truth of who I am in quiet prayer and listen for God’s refreshing ideas revealing to me who I really am as His child.

You are loved. You are beautiful. You are safe. These are the types of words that divine Love echos in consciousness. I pray with passages from the Bible, writings by Mary Baker Eddy and hymns because these help to strengthen my understanding and confidence in God as I go throughout my day.

I just read an article with a wonderful, powerful example of taking a stand. A mother stands up for her daughter when the school counselor says her daughter isn’t intellectually fit for college. The mother expresses beautiful moral courage based on an understanding of  who her daughter is as God’s beautiful child. Her daughter receives prayerful support and — I’ll give away the ending — she goes to college, gets two masters degrees and completes a doctorate. Wow, good thing that mother had the moral courage to stand up for what is right! (You can read the full story here.)

The comforting thing is that regardless of where we are in life, our Father-Mother God is always standing up for us, revealing who we are spiritually as His children and giving us the daily inspiration we need to follow Him.
