The US and Syria

When I heard about the tragic events in Syria, and the debate over whether or not America should respond by military strike, I was troubled.

Being such a complex issue, one wants to be sure they have all the facts straight. I know how I feel about the issue personally, but I also know that God governs with greater intelligence, wisdom, justice, mercy, and love than I can.

I pray to see that God is in control and that God governs us with reason. The divine is so much higher than mortal wills and emotions.

One can never be afraid when working towards a decision that is the result of wisdom, integrity and grace. Whatever direction is received through divine wisdom — and reflects more of the qualities of the Kingdom of Heaven such as grace, peace, and love — can be followed fearlessly.

As I follow this issue on CSMonitor.com, I continue to pray to know that regardless of the human outcome, God’s love, compassion and health-giving power can be seen and felt by all.

Self-sacrifice

Today is Memorial Day in the United States. Many people enjoy a federal holiday and some may reflect on the significance of this day.

Regardless of the diverse opinions out there about war, the military and patriotism, each person who has served in the military and each civilian are united by Christly qualities. It is the Christ which impels us to give unselfishly — to sacrifice ourselves so that others may experience some happiness and good. This sacrifice may come by serving in the military, as a schoolteacher, giving to a non-profit, or devoting one’s life to helping others in some way. We each give self-sacrifices of time, patience, money, and devotion to one another everyday, for which I am grateful.

These qualities and the impulsion to do so doesn’t come from who we are humanly; it comes from deep within our divine nature. It is God who is impelling us to give, guiding us, blessing us and replenishing us. It speaks of our eternal identity, which He created, that is all-good, skilful in expressing divine intelligence, compassion and integrity.

It is this eternal identity which unites all of us in appreciation, love, and forgiveness for one another. We have a deep well of divine strength that we can draw on each moment. This Source gives us solutions and answers to the problems we face and the skill to act on them. It is a deep spiritual love, compassion and integrity which unites us all.

Thanks to everyone who serves in whatever capacity they feel divinely led to do. Your self-sacrifice blesses you and all the world.

A day to remember Love

On this Day of Remembrance, there is an air of sadness as we recall the events that took place.

Why this sadness? Because the foundations we held to were shaken. It is the continued suggestions of the serpent of evil that it can overpower good; that it can crush love.

Can it? Really?

I say no. Good is a synonym for God. Goodness, hope, integrity, forgiveness, compassion and love can not be trampled on or destroyed. The inherent nature of each one of us can never be touched. The carnal mind may try to destroy all that we love. But we have “treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.” (Matthew 6:20 NKJV) When we place our whole affection on God, good, divine Love nothing that we love can ever be destroyed.

This may sound hard. However, with each blessing we receive, we can recognize its source as Life, Love, Spirit – our Heavenly Father-Mother – giving us all we need each moment. We can fill our hearts up full of love and gratitude for this beautiful, invincible force which is always caring for us, perpetuating Her love for us in ways that are visible and real to us.

Love isn’t distant or far-off. Love is tender and kind; Love doesn’t withhold; Love is patient and true; Love doesn’t punish or condemn. I Corinthians 13 describes the essence of Love perfectly. I often think this letter is telling me how to love better, and indeed it is. However, it also describes divine Love – the nature and essence of the perfect Love that is considering our needs, that is enforcing Herself in our lives, that is embracing and holding us each moment. Feel the heart of this Love. In this heart of Love there is no anger or hatred; all of this melts away. We feel the redemptive power of this Love forgiving us and enabling us to forgive others. All sins are wiped away; all material records expunged. We are washed clean. With God all things are possible.
