Here are a few excerpts from this book that has helped people all over the world to find health, healing, and a greater sense of dominion and freedom for more than 100 years.

I had read but a few pages in our textbook, ‘Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures,’ when I saw that it was the truth, and that it contained something I had thought could never be found in this existence. Proofs of healing came immediately, and I was able to do much useful work without a sense of burden or fatigue.” p. 605

I met a lady who owned a copy of Science and Health, and in speaking to her of having seen the book, she informed me she had one, and she got it and told me I could read it. The revelation was marvellous and brought a great spiritual awakening. This awakened sense never left me, and one day when walking alone it came to me very suddenly that I was healed, and I walked the faster declaring every step that I was healed. When I reached my boarding-place, I found my hostess and told her I was healed. She looked the picture of amazement. The tumor began to disappear at once, the hemorrhage ceased, and perfect strength was manifest.” p. 604

About the author

Mary Baker Eddy was a theologian, Christian healer and religious teacher from 1821-1910. She was raised in the Congregational Church in New Hampshire and came to find Christian Science through a dramatic healing she had in 1866 after a near-fatal fall on ice. She spent years studying the Scriptures to learn how she was healed. She healed neighbors, friends, and family members and became the most famous women in America during her time. Some of her contemporaries are Harriet Tubman, Susan B. Anthony, Florence Nightingale, and Clara Barton.

As a student of Christian Science, I have an inclusive view of God, humanity, and Christ.

I believe healing and salvation can be seen here and now through a spiritual awakening to a divine reality—a reality where God dwells in unity, harmony, and peace. Through daily spiritual study, prayer, and practice, we can awaken to what God (Spirit, Life, Love) sees and knows about us and our environment.

For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then we will see face to face. Now I know only in part; then I will know fully, even as I have been fully known. 1 Corinthians 13:12

We each are the beloved offspring of a divine, infinite, Love. This Love sees and knows us in the image and likeness of Love. Imagine yourself as the image and likeness of Love! In truth, we are each spiritual, whole, complete, beautiful, and free. We are the intelligent and capable ideas of God—able to see and know God through Christ.

Christ can be used as a name for Jesus, and it can also be used to describe the activity of God in the human experience. Christ awakens us to who we are as the image and likeness of Love, God, pure, whole, and eternal. Jesus completely embodied this divine idea of Christ when he walked on the earth, which is why he is the Master, Teacher, Messiah, and Savior. We wouldn’t know who we are or the nature of who God is without him.

Christ is the true idea voicing good, the divine message from God to men speaking to the human consciousness. The Christ is incorporeal, spiritual, — yea, the divine image and likeness, dispelling the illusions of the senses; the Way, the Truth, and the Life, healing the sick and casting out evils, destroying sin, disease, and death.*

Below is my favorite complete statement on the nature of who we are (including all men, women and children) from the book Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy:

Man is not matter; he is not made up of brain, blood, bones, and other material elements. The Scriptures inform us that man is made in the image and likeness of God. Matter is not that likeness. The likeness of Spirit cannot be so unlike Spirit. Man is spiritual and perfect; and because he is spiritual and perfect, he must be so understood in Christian Science. Man is idea, the image, of Love; he is not physique. He is the compound idea of God, including all right ideas; the generic term for all that reflects God’s image and likeness; the conscious identity of being as found in Science, in which man is the reflection of God, or Mind, and therefore is eternal; that which has no separate mind from God; that which has not a single quality underived from Deity; that which possesses no life, intelligence, nor creative power of his own, but reflects spiritually all that belongs to his Maker.**
